Of everything I could buy...

Isn't he cute? Uh-huh. I grew up with his hammy movies and admittedly look forward to his Freddy-free 2009 reincarnation... but I'll have my eyes covered.

WTF is your problem? Do you think blogging to entertain you is ALL I have to do with my time? Between starting with a new company, house hunting, traveling across the country and back, I've been a little busy. Okay??
Sorry, it's just my blog-less guilt talking. I've missed you too!
Random company Stysen is creating the B01 i-Knock, a USB companion who knocks itself on the head to notify you about incoming IMs. And, to ensure you wind up knocking yourself in the head as well, it talks and makes sounds to match your emoticons.
Fucking genius.

My parents had a hell of a time teaching me to tie my shoes, which of course is a requirement to enter public school. Actually, it wasn't that I couldn't tie them; it's that my artistry wouldn't stay tied. My aunt Rose was the one who eventually taught me shoelace staying techniques before kindergarten.
I was a long and lanky child... my limbs and appendages grew before their time. I was looking over the top of kids' heads through the fourth grade, where they started to catch up. Truth be known, the early spurt made me appear perpetually spastic as I was full of energy but fairly uncoordinated. Hence the lace issues.
Anyway, while I don't want to buy a pair of zippered Converse clones today, they sure would have done wonders for me back in the day.
Okay, between packing, appointments, rebooking flights, and every other ridiculous chore I had today, I thought about the 10 novels I would recommend reading before death. Or at least before you claim to be a grown up somewhere in your 30s.
- To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee
- The Catcher in the Rye, J.D. Salinger
- War and Peace, Leo Tolstoy
- The Lord of the Rings, J.R.R. Tolkien
- 1984, George Orwell
- Catch-22, Joseph Heller
- Charlotte's Web, E.B. White
- The Martian Chronicles, Ray Bradbury
- The Grapes of Wrath, John Steinbeck
- The Wind in the Willows, Kenneth Grahame
While I think the AOL book list sucked, it's not easy to compile. And even though this is my own rant based on Dan Brown delirium, I can’t help but meme it – so let me start with Erin, Jason, Ron, and Nancie. Feel free to share.
Gone With the Wind.
To Kill a Mockingbird.
The Catcher in the Rye.
Atlas Shrugged.
Harry Potter…
Angels and Demons.....
The Da Vinci Code.......
Seriously? Dan Brown twice? This is truly a weird mix of books with no clear logic.
And not to pick on Mr. Brown, I enjoyed Angels and Demons, but for what sounds like such a critical list, I wouldn't rate his work above say, that of Hemmingway, Dickens, Swift, even Austen. Should I go on? I do find the inclusion of Stephen King’s The Stand interesting.
So, I guess I must pull my own list(s) together or quit bitching. Mhm.
Particle board is possibly the geekiest-cool material known to man. Seriously. Scientists at the University of California, Berkeley, are a step closer to developing metamaterials that could render people invisible. Invisible!
Hm. Just to the human eye, or all seeing creatures? The article omitted this important detail. Invisibility is awesome but not reliable if you have a line dogs tailing you. Wait – won’t they smell you and chase you anyway? And what happens if you get caught in the rain – do you make a clear outline like Kevin Bacon did in the trashy Hollow Man? Then there’s the inevitable wearing off, where you wind up naked in a crowded room. Plus the invisible man always winds up mad. Like a hatter. Have Zhang and company taken all this into account?
They probably watch far less B movies than I do.
